Chemistry from the kitchen - from culinary education to career
This is a project by Mrs. Karolina Pietrzyk, carried out in schools in Kędzierzyn-Koźle. In the school year 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 it was implemented in the Municipal School Complex No. 2 in Kędzierzyn-Koźle and in the school years 2016/2017 – 2018/2019 in the Municipal School Complex No. 1.
The project was initiated due to the fact that many of the school’s students do not bring with them the so-called second breakfast and the fact that the school runs many sports classes, whose students have additional demand for a healthy meal. As part of the project, free sandwiched breakfasts are prepared once a week, which are distributed during one of the breaks. Additionally, occasional meals are prepared, e.g. during the holiday season.
The author of the project together with a group of older students on a given day, prepared and distributed sandwiches (about 150 each time).
The main aim of the project is to help children by providing them with an additional meal, while in the background an important aspect is also the integration of children preparing meals and children who are receiving breakfast during the programme. A very important part of the project is to promote the principles of healthy eating and the necessity of eating a second breakfast among the students.
As Mrs. Karolina (the initiator of the project) informs us, the project has become an important part of school life and has provided measurable help for many children.
From the school year 2014/2015 the project is co-financed by companies from the Mostostal Zabrze Group.
